Music has been a part of my life from a very young age, as I was raised in a musical family that truly enjoyed singing all the time. I sang in choirs throughout my childhood and once I began Gr. 9, I learned how to play the flute and was instantly hooked. After I graduated from the University of Western Ontario, I started my own private music studio, with up to 60 students learning piano, guitar, flute, theory, and music history. On the weekends I performed at many weddings and dinner functions, acting as a freelance musician.
Nine years of private studio brought me to the fact that I wanted to be working the same hours as my son was going to school. So I went back to Western’s Faculty of Education and was hired at Northwestern Secondary School immediately as a Secondary Music Teacher for instrumental music and guitar. While at Northwestern, I have had the pleasure of directing concert bands, guitar ensembles, guitar cafes, flute choirs and several other ensembles for various concerts and festivals.
My years at Stratford Northwestern have been exciting and enjoyable. I love the school, the energy of the students, the friendly teachers and the valuable collaborations with all the Arts Programs. As Acting Head of Arts at Northwestern, I am excited to try new and exciting approaches to teaching music and bringing us all together to celebrate and spread the joy of the Arts.
